WildStar Leveling Guide Review

WildStar is one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever played, and it’s definitely one I’m going to continue playing for a very long time. I’ve been playing MMORPGs for years, so I’m pretty comfortable with the genre, but even so, the fact that the game’s creators have done such a fantastic job at adding new and unique content to the genre with their game left me feeling a bit like a newb. I was learning new stuff each time I played it, and I wanted to eventually become one of the best players on my realm, but at that point it seemed like a pretty far off goal. Luckily, all the other new players were in the same boat. What I needed to do was learn the game faster, so I decided to purchase one of those killerguides.

I’ve never paid money for a game guide before, but I’ve seen these particular guides advertised in the past, and I had to say that I was pretty skeptical about them. Why would I pay for a guide when I’ve got Google? Luckily I was able to answer that question by the time I finished reading it. While it did have a few small problems, I was very pleased by the depth and the amount of content shown. I feel like I got my money’s worth, so I decided to write a review.

Overview

The unofficial wildstar leveling guide was pretty steeply priced at $34.99, and I really wanted to make sure I was getting a decent product for the price, but for some reason they don’t have any text previews to look at like they do on sites like Amazon. I wanted to try it out before I shelled out the money, but all I had to go on was the description. Luckily, the description was pretty expansive and, now that I’ve purchased it, I can attest is does accurately describe the contents of the book. In general, it promises that the guide contains information about how to reach level cap in a week, in depth path guides, class builds and ability rotations, end game and dungeon content, housing information, and PVP info. That’s what I was promised, so I’ll let you know if they were delivered.

Level 50 in a Week

This guide could not help me reach level cap within a week. But I do have to say, it wasn’t their fault. My sister had been married and was moving out that same week and I had some overtime to do at work, so I didn’t get hardly any time to play the game aside from an hour or two here and there. I started a new character after I got the guide, and it took me about 9 days to actually get to cap. Which I will say was a huge improvement over my leveling rate from my previous character. Assuming you don’t have any weddings to attend or overtime to work, I can definitely see anyone getting to 50 in a week by following their instructions. Even newbies, which is another thing I like about the guide. It’s written in a very straight forward and easy to understand way, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone but especially to people who are brand new to WildStar.

Path Guides

Paths are unique to Wildstar, and are a very new thing to me. They were a bit difficult to understand going into the game. I was actually planning on skipping the content entirely when I heard about it; it just didn’t seem all that great. The guide convinced me otherwise. They broke things down very well and showed me how foolish I would have been to actually skip the content, so I’m glad I listened.

Class Builds and Ability Rotations

They had a great selection available and really went into detail about the nuances of each individual skill. I’m no stranger to builds, they’re a staple in any MMORPG, and I know that build theory is not a single man effort and evolves over time. I found them all up to date and highly effective.

Dungeons and End Game Content

End game dungeons are one of the most talked about things in any MMORPG, and there’s plenty of guides available for free online. I don’t want to say that I wouldn’t have been able to get through a dungeon without this guide, but it was definitely a help to have all of that information in one place, and the info that was there was spot on.

Housing

Like the paths, I was planning to skip this entirely. The guide gave a great overview of player housing and showed its finer points, so it’s so far changed my mind for a second time.

PVP

I’m personally more of a PVE guy, but the PVP info listed in the guide was really great. I’ve been pretty terrible at it in past games, but the guide has helped me out quite a bit. I don’t think I’ll become the number one ranked PVPer any time soon, but it’s still a nice break from dungeons.

Additional Info

In addition to the above information, they’ve also said they’ll keep the guide updated, which is important because MMOs change all the time. They also offer a 60 day money back guarantee, which I will not be using because I was very happy with my purchase and will be consulting it in the future, but it goes to show that they’re not trying to scam you and that it’s a legit guide.

Closing Thoughts

I am very pleased with what the guide shown me, and I’d definitely recommend it to a friend that’s new to the game or new to MMOs in general. I’m not going to say it’s perfect, but it’s definitely worth the money.
