WildStar Leveling Guide Review

WildStar is one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever played, and it’s definitely one I’m going to continue playing for a very long time. I’ve been playing MMORPGs for years, so I’m pretty comfortable with the genre, but even so, the fact that the game’s creators have done such a fantastic job at adding new and unique content to the genre with their game left me feeling a bit like a newb. I was learning new stuff each time I played it, and I wanted to eventually become one of the best players on my realm, but at that point it seemed like a pretty far off goal. Luckily, all the other new players were in the same boat. What I needed to do was learn the game faster, so I decided to purchase one of those killerguides.

I’ve never paid money for a game guide before, but I’ve seen these particular guides advertised in the past, and I had to say that I was pretty skeptical about them. Why would I pay for a guide when I’ve got Google? Luckily I was able to answer that question by the time I finished reading it. While it did have a few small problems, I was very pleased by the depth and the amount of content shown. I feel like I got my money’s worth, so I decided to write a review.

Overview

The unofficial wildstar leveling guide was pretty steeply priced at $34.99, and I really wanted to make sure I was getting a decent product for the price, but for some reason they don’t have any text previews to look at like they do on sites like Amazon. I wanted to try it out before I shelled out the money, but all I had to go on was the description. Luckily, the description was pretty expansive and, now that I’ve purchased it, I can attest is does accurately describe the contents of the book. In general, it promises that the guide contains information about how to reach level cap in a week, in depth path guides, class builds and ability rotations, end game and dungeon content, housing information, and PVP info. That’s what I was promised, so I’ll let you know if they were delivered.

Level 50 in a Week

This guide could not help me reach level cap within a week. But I do have to say, it wasn’t their fault. My sister had been married and was moving out that same week and I had some overtime to do at work, so I didn’t get hardly any time to play the game aside from an hour or two here and there. I started a new character after I got the guide, and it took me about 9 days to actually get to cap. Which I will say was a huge improvement over my leveling rate from my previous character. Assuming you don’t have any weddings to attend or overtime to work, I can definitely see anyone getting to 50 in a week by following their instructions. Even newbies, which is another thing I like about the guide. It’s written in a very straight forward and easy to understand way, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone but especially to people who are brand new to WildStar.

Path Guides

Paths are unique to Wildstar, and are a very new thing to me. They were a bit difficult to understand going into the game. I was actually planning on skipping the content entirely when I heard about it; it just didn’t seem all that great. The guide convinced me otherwise. They broke things down very well and showed me how foolish I would have been to actually skip the content, so I’m glad I listened.

Class Builds and Ability Rotations

They had a great selection available and really went into detail about the nuances of each individual skill. I’m no stranger to builds, they’re a staple in any MMORPG, and I know that build theory is not a single man effort and evolves over time. I found them all up to date and highly effective.

Dungeons and End Game Content

End game dungeons are one of the most talked about things in any MMORPG, and there’s plenty of guides available for free online. I don’t want to say that I wouldn’t have been able to get through a dungeon without this guide, but it was definitely a help to have all of that information in one place, and the info that was there was spot on.

Housing

Like the paths, I was planning to skip this entirely. The guide gave a great overview of player housing and showed its finer points, so it’s so far changed my mind for a second time.

PVP

I’m personally more of a PVE guy, but the PVP info listed in the guide was really great. I’ve been pretty terrible at it in past games, but the guide has helped me out quite a bit. I don’t think I’ll become the number one ranked PVPer any time soon, but it’s still a nice break from dungeons.

Additional Info

In addition to the above information, they’ve also said they’ll keep the guide updated, which is important because MMOs change all the time. They also offer a 60 day money back guarantee, which I will not be using because I was very happy with my purchase and will be consulting it in the future, but it goes to show that they’re not trying to scam you and that it’s a legit guide.

Closing Thoughts

I am very pleased with what the guide shown me, and I’d definitely recommend it to a friend that’s new to the game or new to MMOs in general. I’m not going to say it’s perfect, but it’s definitely worth the money.

How Do I Know Which WildStar Class is Best for Me?

Wildstar Online offers a host of differing classes to choose from. Among these classes, you are presented with the choice between a Warrior class, Esper, Spellslinger, Stalker, Medic, and even the dynamic Engineer class. What makes WildStar Online's class selection so special, when compared to numerous other MMORPGs of the the same genre, is that the class selection branches into much more than just a title of choice. It's these minute details that can make choosing between the strong selection of classes, all the more difficult. The key to finding one that fits you and your playing style, is to pick apart these differences, in order to zone in on what you would most favor as a playable perk.

When playing WildStar Online as a Warrior class, you will have the ability to play between 6 different character races, which are compatible with this particular class type. This excludes only two available races, which would not make the best fit for the Warrior class. If you like strong characters, who deal devastating blows with fierce, customized weaponry, then this may be the class for you. Many players who prefer the over-sized "tank" character tend to go for this class.

The Esper class is master of illusions and healing type magics. If you favor the healer role in a group of players, or simply enjoy the fact that you can heal yourself at an accelerated rate, then this might be more your cup of tea. Wielding the power of the mind, Espers conjure up lethal apparitions, not to mention they've mastered the ability to control extrasensory weaponry! This class is not to be mistaken for the Medic class, although they do have a few similarities. The Medic class is also one to take into account, if you are interested in support abilities over physical attack prowess.

Stalkers are best associated with thieves, ninjas, spies, and other stealth related classes that people are most familiar with. With the use of advanced sneaking skills, the Stalker class is a force to be reckoned with. They also boast quick reaction times, which is a perfect combination for silent, yet deadly kill streaks. Besides the Stalker class, you also have the possibility of the Engineer and Spellslinger classes. Both the Engineer and Spellslinger class have their own little tricks of the battling trade, both of which have the ability to perform support and deadly direct attack moves, when used correctly.

WildStar Guide to Classes

There are six classes in WildStar to choose from. Each class has a different playstyle and can perform two of the three possible trinity (DPS, healer, tank) roles. Each class can DPS efficiently and solo extremely well. Most classes have certain racial restrictions but all classes are open to both factions.

Here is a summary of all six classes as well as their roles and racial limitations:

Warrior

Warriors are fierce sword-swinging powerhouses that can either be a tank or damage dealer. They wield gigantic two-handed swords and use an arm cannon that multitasks as an electronic shield. They get a wide range of crowd control abilities in the form of stomps, charges and leaps.

Roles: Melee DPS or Tank

Races available: Human, Granok, Mordesh, Cassian, Mechari, Draken

Spellslinger

Spellslingers wield dual mag pistols and sling bullets as well as perform acrobatics and put up magical sigils to either deal damage or heal their allies. They are extremely quick and mobile.

Roles: Ranged DPS or Healer

Races available: Human, Aurin, Mordesh, Cassian, Draken, Chua

Esper

Espers conjure powerful illusions to aid them in combat as well as wield an awesome-looking psy-blade that tosses out projections. They also use dark magic to manipulate their foes and cause them to have nightmares.

Roles: Ranged DPS or Healer

Races available: Human, Aurin, Cassian, Chua

Engineer

Engineers wield gigantic rocket launchers and can control mechanical robots to do their bidding mid-fight. They also get a powerful exo-suit that allows them to either DPS efficiently or even serve as a ranged tank for their group.

Roles: Ranged DPS or Tank

Races available: Human, Granok, Mordesh, Cassian, Mechari, Chua

Stalker

Stalkers dual wield claw weapons to slice and dice their enemies into tiny pieces. They also utilize stealth, nano-darts, mines and a handy nano-skin to make any battlefield their playground. Stalkers can perform well as either a damage dealer or a tank that specializes in avoidance.

Roles: Melee DPS or Tank

Races available: Human, Aurin, Mordesh, Cassian, Mechari, Draken

Medic

Medics use dual-wielded resonator weapons to heal their allies as well as damage any enemies that dare cross their path. They also utilize electronic fields and friendly probes to provide large-scale healing, support and field-wide utility. They are a very flexible class.

Roles: Ranged DPS or Healer

Races available: Human, Granok, Mordesh, Cassian, Mechari, Chua

WildStar Innate Abilities for All Classes

WildStar is an upcoming MMORPG that will be released July 2013 for Microsoft Windows platforms. WildStar has six playable classes that include Warrior, Esper, Spellslinger, Stalker, Medic, and Engineer. Each of the six classes has access to at least one extremely powerful ability, called an innate ability. The innate ability does not count towards the eight other abilities a player may have access to at any given time..

Innate abilities often help a player with his or her choices in specialization, which is performed by using the AMP chart.

Warrior

The Warrior class’ innate ability is divided into two separate stances called bulwark and juggernaut. Bulwark increases threat generation, decreases incoming damage, and removes the possibility of kinetic energy reserves depleting for eight seconds. Bulwark is an obvious choice for Warriors who have decided to specialize as tanks and is certainly an ideal ability for larger trash pulls and boss encounters. Juggernaut is activated by triggering the overdrive for approximately six seconds. The juggernaut stance increases assault power by thirty-three percent. The stance also reduces resistances by twenty percent.

Esper

The Esper’s innate ability is spectral form, which grants the Esper one-hundred percent damage immunity and an addition of one psi-point every .5 to eight seconds. Spectral form is extremely useful if a player must do a massive amount of burst damage and may take aggro.

Spellslinger

Spell surge, which is the Spellslinger’s innate ability, applies a massive damage buff to the next spell used. While there are four uses of spell surge before it is depleted, spell surge can be toggled on and off to allow the Spellslinger the ability to choose which attacks will be buffed.

Stalker

The Stalker’s innate abilities are by far the most varied and complicated. However, all three are extremely useful. There are three versions of the same ability: agile, evasive, and lethal. All of the abilities have no cooldown if used while out of combat. Agile was previous known as standard.

Agile increases dash regeneration, endurance, and lifesteal, making it the perfect ability for utility builds. Evasive increases deflection chance, resistances, and threat generation, which makes it a must-have for Stalker-tanks. Lastly, lethal provides a one-hundred percent critical chance from stealth while increasing damage and decreasing resistances.

Medic

Energize increases either damage or healing output by eighty percent for eight seconds. This ability is invaluable for instance where spike healing or damage is necessary.

Engineer

The Engineer has two innate abilities. The first is called eradication mode, which buffs assault power by thirty-five percent and applies a reduction to all resistances by twenty percent. The second ability is called is called provocation mode. Provocation mode increases threat generation by one-hundred-fifty percent and also applies an area-of-effect skill to three separate targets.
